Fabulous Friday Fun

Click here for the CURRENT CHALLENGE.
Click here for the ROBYN'S FETISH STORE SALE.
Click here for the ROBYN'S NEST.

This week I am going to share with you the way I color in a lot of my images here at IDIC. I simply paint the image using distressing inks and water with a regular paint brush I bought at Hobby Lobby. I have a craft mat that I pressed the distressing ink pads on and then spray them with water. You can find the Craft Sheet at the OWSE store. Another thing you can use if you just want to try it out is wax paper. It works well but after a while I decided it was time to invest in the craft sheet. It is well worth the money for this technique and so much more.

I use distressing inks because they react beautifully with water, where other ink brands do not. I often use water with Perfect Pearls in it to give the image sparkle. I printed out the digital image from Robyn's Fetish on regular cardstock from Michael's but I have to tell you I really like to use watercolor paper. I found some at Hobby Lobby that I felt was reasonably priced and only needed to be cut down slightly to fit in my printer. The cardstock can warp when you add the ink with water. This doesn't happen with the watercolor paper.

For this card I am using the following supplies:

1.) Distressing inks Barn Door and Broken China

2.) Perfect Pearls color perfect pearl

3.) Mini Mister (to blend my water and Perfect Pearls together)

4.) Mittens image from Robyn's Fetish

5.) cardstock, lace, thread and stamp from my stash

Let's begin!

After I printed my image out onto the cardstock I gathered all my supplies.

Take your ink pads and pat them onto the craft sheet to make your very own painting palate. In order to keep your ink pads from becoming contaminated with other colors set the different colors apart from each other. See below:

If you plan on combining inks to make your own colors place them semi close to be able to pull more of one color to the other until you get the color you are looking for. The more water you add to the ink the lighter the color will be. I usually spray the water to the side of the ink spot so I have the choice to make it lighter or darker.

This next photo show my paint brush and the combining of the water (with Perfect Pearls) and ink together on the paint brush.

I then started painting in my image. I started with the smallest part of the image, the hearts, so that the red was prominent and would stick out from the blue mittens. After cleaning my brush with water, I went onto the blue. I colored the first coat light blue because I like to go over the image a second time with the same color after the painting dries a bit. The lines from the paint brush seem to blend together better the second time it is painted.

You can see in the photo below I have paint brush lines so I am going to wait a while before I go back in with my blue. So because I was being impatient I decided to blend the blue and red together and make a purple color for the top of the mittens as you can see below.

Here is my final image. I painted a second coat on the hands of the mittens but not around the cuffs. I wanted the lines to show on the cuffs and for the color to be lighter than the bottom.

Here is my final card. I wanted the lace to flare up when the card was standing up. What I will do is fold the lace upward when I put it into the envelope so when the recipient takes the card out of the envelope it will naturally flip up like the picture. You can really see the sparkle that the Perfect Pearls add to the image. Love that.

That's all I have for you today. I hope you have enjoyed a new twist to coloring in your images and using those distressing inks you may have in your stash.

Check out my BLOG for more examples of this technique, especially this fairy card.

A couple of things to note are these:

Become a follower of my blog, use this technique and leave me a link in the comments before the next Fabulous Friday Fun and you can win a prize from me. I make you become a follower so I can get in contact with you for your prize.

We hope that you join us there for a lot of fun and learning!

CARD OF THE WEEK - 10/27/2011

Welcome to our newest feature page!

Each Thursday, we will be showing you a card that I have found that uses some of our Robyn's Fetish Digital Stamps And More images.

I will be searching through "Blog Land" to find these but if you would like to point me in YOUR direction, just send me that email.

Our very first person to be showcased here is Mandy and her blog  can be found here.

Some of you might remember Mandy from a challenge that I had on "The Robyn's Nest" a few months ago.  She won that challenge and as part of her prize, she was given the opportunity to display her creative talents on this special post.

Before we see her creation, let's learn a little about Mandy and her interest in stamping.

I am 40 years old and I am married to the most wonderful man who I have been with since I was 17. I love card making and have been creative ever since I discovered paper and scissors when I was a child. I like to make unusual cards that have a 'wow' factor. I've been making them for family for so many years I have to keep upping the bar with every new one I do. My signature style is bright and bold too and obviously my blog reflects that, Made By Mandy

Mandy has created this lovely TENT CARD with several of our own images.

For my card I have used digi images from Robyn's Fetish Digital Stamps and More.

I had never made a tent card and think they look really effective if you combine the right elements together.
All images are coloured with Promarkers.

I didn't follow any instructions but had a reasonable idea of how it would work and made it up as I went along.
I am really pleased with how this has turned out. I truly love being so inspired when I initially see the digi design but when it actually comes out the way you planned it in your head it amazes me every time!!

Here are some links for all of us to use if we would like to make a TENT CARD, too.

Thank you, Mandy, for showing us your lovely tent card!

I hope that all of you have enjoyed seeing this and will try making some of your own Tent Cards.

If you do, please tell me and send me an email at: spaulson1984@hotmail.com so that I can feature YOU on the CARD OF THE WEEK.

See you next Thursday!

Fabulous Friday Fun

Click here for the CURRENT DT CALL
Click here for the CURRENT CHALLENGE
Click here for the ROBYN'S FETISH STORE SALE

Click here for the ROBYN'S NEST

Here we go into week two of Fabulous Friday Fun. Today I'm going to show you how I make a shaped card using Spellbinders dies. You can use any type of die and die cutting machine. This just happens to be what I have.

For this project I used minimal supplies:

1.) Three shades of cardstock

2.) Tim Holtz stamps (from Birds and Baubles and Soulful Journey)

3.) Distressing ink (Frayed Burlap)

4.) Colorbox petal point pigment ink

5.) Stampendous clear embossing powder

Tools that I used: distressing tool by Ranger Industries, Spellbinder die (Beaded Square), Cuttlebug machine, Fiskars 12 inch paper trimmer, Marvy heat embossing gun and an old school embossing stylus.

The first thing I do is figure out where to score my cardstock. I don't have a fancy dancy scorer so I use what I have on hand, which is my 12 inch trimmer. Where the blade cuts a straight line is a groove that when you line up your paper and push down into that groove with a stylus you score your paper.

With the piece of cream cardstock that I picked out of my stash, I lined it up on my trimmer and then placed the die on top of it. I know that I'll need a fold in the paper to make it a card and not just two die cuts. To make this fold I am going to score the paper to the right of the die. Therefore when my die is on my trimmer the score line is over the die. See picture below.

From here I take the die off of the trimmer, leaving the paper where it is, and score my line in the groove of the trimmer.

After it is scored I then take the paper out and fold it at the score line.

Once I have a well folded piece of cardstock I get the Cuttlebug out and place the die on top of the folded paper to cut my card. You have to let the die hang over the paper where it is folded like the picture below.

In order to get the die to cut through two pieces of cardstock I had to use a piece of chipboard and run it through twice. Since we are using the Cuttlebug to cut we use the "C" plate. ("C" is for cut)

Here is the die cut still inside the die. At first I was all mad because it didn't cut all the way through.

But then I took it out of the die and loved the results. On the inside of the card the pattern of the die was embossed onto it. I was pleasantly surprised.

This is the front of the card unfinished.

And here it is all pretty.

I added some stamps and heat embossing to the brown cardstock. I took a Colorbox petal and inked the edges so I could pour embossing powder over it and heat embossed the edges. Distressing ink was my friend on the edges of the card base along with some Perfect Pearls and water sprayed on it.

Thank you so much for stopping by today and checking out my tutorial.

A couple of things to note are these:

I will be posting this on my personal blog on Friday's too.  Become a follower of MY BLOG, use this technique and leave me a link in the comments before the next Fabulous Friday Fun and you can win a prize from me. I make you become a follower so I can get in contact with you for your prize.

It is a discount club, so once you are accepted, you can get great discounts on so many paper crafting supplies, like those that I used for my project.

We hope that you join us there for a lot of fun and learning!
